    The team of School of materials won the third prize of inorganic nonmetallic materials competition area of the eighth Guangdong University Students' material innovation competition

        From December 8 to 9, 2018, the final of the 8th Guangdong College Students' material innovation competition, sponsored by Guangdong material research society, was held in Foshan University of science and technology. The competition attracted more than 200 teams from 15 provinces and regions including Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Guangxi, Fujian, Hunan and Guangdong, as well as 33 colleges and universities, including Sun Yat sen University, Xiamen University, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Beijing University of technology, South China University of technology, Northeast University and Hunan University. After a fierce competition, the competition team of the school of materials, which represented the campus for the first time, advanced to the final and won the third prize in the inorganic nonmetallic materials competition area.


        The team of the school of materials is guided by Wu Junwei, associate professor of the school of materials. Ding Zhiyu, a 2016 master student of the school of materials, is the team leader. The members include Yao Penghui, Yu Haobin, Zhang Sanli and Wang Jing. Since taking part in the competition in July this year, the team has been actively preparing for the competition in addition to scientific research and learning. Under the careful guidance of Wu Junwei, the team has stood out from more than 200 teams and successfully entered the final of the competition. In the final scene after the on-site defense, poster display, expert evaluation and other aspects of the competition, finally won the award of the competition.


        The team of the school of materials is mainly engaged in the research and development of high-performance cathode materials for sodium ion batteries. Through a simple environmental protection preparation process, the cathode materials for sodium ion batteries with high specific capacity and good cycle stability are obtained, which provides an effective, feasible and low-cost research direction for the industrialization and mass production of sodium ion batteries.


        It is reported that Guangdong University students pay attention to entrepreneurship, innovative materials and innovation ability. Encourage students to combine their knowledge to research innovative scientific achievements with practical value in new materials, provide a platform for young students to show themselves, improve themselves, and cultivate team spirit, promote the transformation of competition results and the close combination of production, learning, research and application, and promote more talents and innovation and entrepreneurship projects to settle in Guangdong.
